چکیده
Abstract Background Endoscopy is vital to pediatric gastroenterology. Performing endoscopic procedures safely, effectively and with age-specific considerations requires integration of technical cognitive competencies. There are many guidelines for diagnosis, classification, management gastrointestinal conditions. To date, there few collated resources endoscopists. Subspecialty trainee feedback at McMaster University identified the need an accessible, consolidated resource improve knowledge competence. The literature shows a lack exposure in subspeciality training uncommon yet high acuity such as bleeding. In apprenticeship-based learning model, this poses challenge both trainees trainers. Evidence suggests use multimedia tools more effective procedural skills than text alone, which guided creation resource. Purpose develop “in-the-moment” electronic supplement procedures. Method A two gastroenterologists expertise medical education program development existing gaps. An pocket guide links relevant instructional was developed. underwent six rounds revision ensure it contained updated guidelines. copyright e-learning expert reviewed content certify complied laws University’s accessibility will be uploaded Pressbooks © allows export multiple formats distribution. Result(s) Based on gaps by local experts, following domains were incorporated into guide: 1. Logistics: safety procedures, colonoscopy preparation regimens, equipment specifications, urgent endoscopy reporting 2. Troubleshooting: patient positioning, loop recognition/management strategies 3. Special tests: method collection, collection media lab protocols 4. Scoring systems: validated scoring eosinophilic esophagitis, Barrett’s esophagus, esophageal varices, caustic injury, bleeding ulcers, inflammatory bowel disease 5. Endoscopic emergencies: burns, foreign body ingestions upper bleeds 6. tools: instructions used categories hemostasis, polypectomy, removal, strictures Conclusion(s) This novel teaching tool provides that can all levels gastroenterology gain familiarity and/or rapidly access complex or infrequently encountered techniques.
